HOW CAN ARCHITECTURE RETHINK THE IDEA OF A BARN AND TURN IT INTO A DYNAMIC AND FLEXIBLE WORK BUILDING?

My thesis project started out with the want to study ancient Japanese joinery and this was a topic that has always interested me because of my background in construction. Barns have been built for a long time as flexible work buildings that support many different types of needs. These barns have been built using traditional joinery methods and many are still standing to this day. These traditional building methods are out of style and are expensive to recreate. In my thesis I am proposing the idea of redesigning and thinking of how these buildings are built. By implementing new fabrication and material technology I can design a new system of how these buildings are built and used, creating dynamic spaces, that people want to be in, along the way.
